I learnt the lesson hard way

After all the heartbreaks and pain, I threw myself into work, hoping to forget and move on. I worked for two years day and night with a marketing agency. But just when everything seemed monotonous, life threw a surprise my way: an offer to relocate to Italy with a big promotion.

Moving to Italy felt like opening a new book. Italy was like a fresh painting, full of colors and mysteries waiting to be explored. Everything was different — the streets, the people, and the language. It was overwhelming, but I took it as a challenge.

How I Met Archie

I joined an Italian class to grasp the language and culture. On my first day, I met Archie. He was learning just like me, and together, we began discovering the beauty of Italy. We went to cafes, tasted new dishes, and shared our experiences. Italy felt less foreign and more like an exciting adventure with Archie by my side.

In no time, Archie and I became inseparable. Every moment with him made me forget my past and focus on the present. The connection was so strong that it felt like we had known each other forever. Just eight days into our friendship, Archie surprised me by proposing.

My heart jumped with joy, but I was also scared. Not long after his proposal, Archie opened up about his wishes. He told me he wanted to marry soon, eager to settle down without delay. It was all happening so fast! Still, I couldn’t deny our special bond, and Archie’s love swept me off my feet.

A Change in the Wind

After our big engagement party, I started seeing a different side of Archie. One day, he was the loving and caring person I fell for, and the next, he became controlling and unpredictable. He’d tell me what to wear, where to go, and who to meet.

As our wedding day approached, my excitement turned into anxiety. I tried to brush away my doubts, thinking it was just pre-wedding jitters. But deep down, I felt something wasn’t right. Archie’s mood swings and bipolar behavior worried me. I had to decide if this was the love story I wanted for my future.

The Wedding

My wedding was on the horizon, and Archie’s emotional manipulation made me say “I do.” Yes, I married him. The very next morning, things took a turn for the worse. Archie was aware that my friends and colleagues had organized a breakfast for us.

However, he still forcefully took me to another cafe for a “romantic” breakfast he had arranged. I mistakenly thought he was just being kind, letting myself be manipulated once more. His unpredictable behavior continued: some days, he was sweet, and others, he acted wildly. Amidst this rollercoaster, he sprung a surprise — our honeymoon tickets to Paris.

What Happens In Paris Stays In Paris

In Paris, Archie’s behavior became even more controlling. He dictated how I should dress, and things took a darker turn when I mentioned a dinner my friend had arranged for us.

At first, he seemed pleased and accompanied me to the cafe. But out of the blue, he abandoned me there and went off clubbing, leaving me alone. When he returned the following day, I confronted him about his actions. He said he couldn’t stand sharing me or seeing me give attention to anyone else.

After our argument, I decided then and there to leave Archie for good. As I moved on, I got to know shocking truths about him. Archie had been married before and was divorced because he was too controlling. He had lied to me about not having a family.

In reality, his own family had pushed him away because of his brutal nature. He was even seeing a psychiatrist. His urgency to marry me quickly wasn’t out of love. He wanted to show his ex-wife that he could move on fast.

I couldn’t find the words to express how I felt. Everything I thought I knew was turned upside down.
